>RYA Day Skipper Theory
Conducted in our lecture room overlooking Hout Bay Harbour and Chapman’s Peak, students will learn basic navigation, pilotage, safety procedures, collision regulations and seamanship skills.

OR 2 weekends.
Required sailing experience
Some practical experience is required.
Training
As an aspiring skipper, 2 Oceans Maritime Academy will introduce you to the fundamentals necessary to take a yacht to sea. You will be taught basic navigation and pilotage which includes:
- chart work
- position fixing
- plotting a course to steer
- weather forecasting
- understanding tides and the international regulations for preventing collisions at sea.
You will also be taught about:
- the parts of a yacht
- emergency and safety equipment
- points of sail
- and the theory of sailing.

All RYA course material is supplied.
Accommodation
If this module forms part of the 6/17-week Career Course or the 9-day Skipper Combined Course, you will receive free accommodation on board your training yacht.
Food
Refreshing tea and coffee is supplied. However, food is not included, and is for your own account.
Availability
RYA Day Skipper Shore-Based Theory course is run throughout the year.
