>RYA Competent Crew
This certificate is an introduction to yachting, basic seamanship and helmsmanship skills. The training you get will ensure that you are able to function as a confident and competent member of any sailing crew, anywhere in the world.
Duration
5 days (Monday to Friday)
OR 3 weekends
OR 2 weekends (if you have already completed the Start Yachting course).
Capacity
Maximum of 5 students per course.
Experience
No previous sailing experience required.
Training
The 2 Oceans/RYA Competent Crew course is an ideal introduction to yachting. During the 5 days you will be taught how to:
- steer a yacht
- put up the sails and handle them
- become familiar with nautical terms
- and learn how to live on a yacht amongst other things.
In sailing, safety is of key importance, which is why you will be taught how to:
- assist in the recovery of a man over board
- operate flares and use life jackets, harnesses and life rafts.
You will also:
- sail over 100 nautical miles
- enjoy at least 4 night hours’ of sailing and visit many of the harbours and anchorages of the Cape/Langebaan area.
Food
is supplied for the course.

The RYA Competent Crew course is run throughout the year.
