Overview

This course provides those with no/minimal experience with the practical and theoretical experience and preparation required in order to gain a commercially endorsed RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore certificate. It is a fast and effective way to enter the industry on vessels under 24m or for those who need to gain a skipper’s qualification to skipper their own yacht.

On successful completion you will be able to work on a variety of sailing yachts as a: charter skipper, flotilla skipper, corporate day sailing, cruising instructor, delivery skipper or first mate.

2 Oceans Maritime Academy sailing school has specifically designed this course in order to meet the growing demand for professional, well trained crew members to work on Super Yachts and luxury yachts.

Aim

The aim of this course is for those who are serious about a career in yachting and are seeking the best opportunities in order to gain the skills and qualifications required for employment in flotilla, charter, deliveries and instruction.

  • are wanting to travel and explore their horizons
  • are looking to make a career in the ever-growing Super Yachting industry
  • or own/will own a boat one day.

Duration

14/17 Weeks.

Required sailing experience

No previous sailing experience is necessary. However a love for the ocean, travel and hard work is a must.

  • Work on vessels up to 24m in length.
  • The course includes everything you need to obtain for the RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore qualifications with commercial endorsement.
  • You will gain substantial sea experience aboard our 42” yachts.
  • ou will gain 2,500 miles of practical sailing experience along the South African coast line which is known to be some of the toughest sailing in the world. If you can sail in these waters you can sail any where in the world.

Training:

RYA Competent Crew, Day Skipper, Coastal Skipper Yachtmaster Theory, Coastal Practical, Mileage sailing along the South African coast line, Exam preparation, Coastal Skipper ticket as well as Yachtmaster offshore Radio (SRC), Super Yacht Training, First Aid, Fire Fighting, PSSR, Power Boat Level II.

  • On the water: Gain practical experience in, sailing, crewing, navigating, watch keeping, maintenance and seamanship skills. Including:
  • 60 Days afloat
  • A minimum of 2500 nautical miles, and practical experience
  • Close quarters handling under power and sail
  • Skippering and command skills
  • Pilotage by day and night
  • Sail setting
  • Meteorlogy
  • On land: Learn the principals of boat handling, navigation, passage planning, rules of the “road” and SRC Radio. Not to mention: first aid, fire fighting, sea survival, super yacht training, care of vessel paintwork, glass fibre, varnish, repairs to sails, winch servicing, rope work, rigging, diesel engine maintenance and basic repairs.

Qualifications

On completion of the course, successful candidates will qualify with us and gain internationally recognized course completion certificates:

  • RYA / MCA Yachtmaster Offshore or Yachtmaster Coastal with commercial endorsement.
  • RYA / MCA Yachtmaster Theory
  • RYA Powerboat Level II
  • STCW 95’ (First Aid, Fire fighting, PSSR)
  • Super Yacht Training certificate
  • RYA Radio (SRC)
  • Diesel engine maintenance

Note

To gain a commercial endorsement you will be required to have an ENG 1 from an MCA Medical approved Doctor. We will help you make a booking you for a medical.
