>Introduction to Career Sailing Deck Rated

Overview

This is an entry level course that offers you an effective way to gain employment as qualified a crew member (deck hand) aboard yachts of all sizes.

2 Oceans Maritime Academy has specifically designed this course in order to meet the growing demand for professional, well trained crew members to work on Super Yachts and luxury yachts.

Aim

To gain the skills and minimum experience needed to work as qualified crewmember on luxury sail or motor yachts. This includes being confident and competent in all aspects of crewing on both large and small vessels and to be aware of what is expected of you.

Who?

This course is ideal if you:

  • have just left school
  • are taking a gap year
  • are wanting to travel and explore their horizons
  • are looking to make a career in the ever-growing Super Yachting industry.

Duration

30 Days.

Required sailing experience

No previous sailing experience is necessary. However a love for the ocean, travel and hard work is a must.

Training

RYA Competent Crew, Day Skipper, Radio (SRC), Super Yacht Training, First Aid, Fire Fighting, PSSR, Power Boat Level II.

On the water

Gain practical sailing experience in: sailing, crewing, navigating, watch-keeping, maintenance and seamanship skills.

On land

Learn the principals of boat handling, navigation, passage planning, rules of the “road” and SRC Radio. Not to mention: first aid, fire fighting, sea survival, super yacht training, care of vessel paintwork, glass fibre, varnish, repairs to sails, winch servicing, rope work, rigging, diesel engine maintenance and basic repairs.

On completion of the course, successful candidates will qualify with us and gain internationally recognized course completion certificates:

  • RYA Competent Crew
  • RYA Day Skipper Shorebase
  • RYA Day Skipper Practical
  • RYA Powerboat Level II
  • STCW 95’ (First Aid, Fire fighting, PSSR)
  • Super Yacht Training
  • RYA Radio (SRC).

Accommodation on board one of our 3 new yachts  (a Fast 42’ or Pacer 37’) is included in the following modules:

  • RYA Competent Crew
  • RYA Day Skipper theory
  • RYA Day Skipper practical
  • RYA SRC Radio
  • RYA Power Boat Level II

Food is provided for the two practical sailing weeks:

  • RYA Competent Crew
  • RYA Day Skipper Practical

Extras

  • 3 x Passport Photos
  • R100 deposit for marine disk (gives you access to the Hout Bay Yacht Club and onto the Marina)
  • Food money during shorebase courses (Day Skipper Theory, Radio SRC, Power Boat level II)
  • Accommodation for the STCW 95 modules (7 days)
  • Accommodation for the Super Yacht Training (3 days).
