As an aspiring skipper, 2 Oceans Maritime Academy will introduce you to the fundamentals necessary to take a yacht to sea. You will be taught basic navigation and pilotage which includes chart work, position fixing, plotting a course to steer, weather forecasting, understanding tides and the international regulations for preventing collisions at sea.

You will also be taught about the parts of a yacht, emergency and safety equipment, points of sail and the theory of sailing. The 2 Oceans/RYA Day Skipper Theory course is conducted in our lecture room over-looking Hout Bay Harbour and Chapman's Peak. It is also a short 5-minute walk from the beach. All RYA course material will be supplied in addition to refreshing tea and coffee.

You will be accommodated on board your training yacht (should this be part of the 2 Oceans 6 / 17 week career course or the 9 day Day Skipper combined course) but food, however, is for your own account.

The 2 Oceans/RYA Day Skipper Shore-Based Theory course is run throughout the year.
